Arcade Comedy Theater debuts with plethora of performances

Feb 14, 2013 (The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Arcade Comedy Theater makes its formal debut Friday with a full schedule of performers that includes not just comics but singers, magicians, storytellers and others.


The company is a spin-off of the improvisation and comedy performances that have been popular at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust-sponsored Late Night Cabaret performances in the Cabaret at Theater Square, says Randy Kirk, president of Arcade Comedy Theater.

The newly formed producing-and-presenting arts organization plans to expand its performance schedule to Wednesdays through Saturdays with as many as three performances in an evening. Player One, Arcade Comedy Theater's improv troupe, will offer short-form and long-form sketches at each of the four opening-weekend shows. Each of the shows will feature a different headliner, plus an assortment of other entertainers.

Scheduled for the opening weekend are: --8 p.m. Friday: "Pittsburgh Dad" comic Curt Wootton, along with the female comedy troupe Frankly Scarlett and the musicians Bait and Switch --10 p.m. Friday: Magician and stand-up comic Lee Terbosic; additional acts include visual artist and storyteller Joe Wos and Pittsburgh stand-up comedian Jeff Konkle.

--8 p.m. Saturday: Stand-up comedian Gene Collier, plus Burger Time, a new musical group made up of band members from Bait and Switch, the Give-a-Damns and Eric & the Electric MP3, and Arcade Radio Mysteries, a 1940s-style radio play written by Mike Rubino.

--10 p.m. Saturday: Sean Collier, a columnist and a regular contributor on the DVE Morning Show; additional acts include variety performer and world yo-yo champion Mark Hayward and Act Classy, a group of comedic satirists and bloggers, who include Fred Betzner, Joseph Lyons, Brad Stephenson and Gayle Stephenson.
