MapR Announces European Leadership Team
SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
MapR
Technologies, Inc., the Hadoop technology leader, today announced
Steve Jenkins as its first VP for EMEA to lead its new European
operation that launched in December of 2012.
Jenkins, an experienced senior executive, has previously led European
operations for Q1 Labs (acquired by IBM (News - Alert)), Isilon Systems (acquired by
EMC) and F5 Networks. During his career spanning over 20 years, Jenkins
also guided the successful creation, growth and expansion of robust
European market presence for Nortel (News - Alert) Networks, Bay Networks and Wellfleet.

welcome the opportunity to help MapR deliver technical and sales
resources to support and grow both our channel and client base across
the region," Jenkins added.
The new MapR European headquarters will be based in London, England and
will initially support partners across the region. MapR has also
appointed Zeljko Dodlek as sales director who joins the team following
executive roles at RedHat, DataDirect Networks, Isilon Systems and
NetApp. Dodlek is based in Munich, Germany and will primarily cover the
DACH region.
Jenkins and the new European team will also support existing strategic
agreements between MapR and EMC, Google (News - Alert), Cisco and Amazon as well as
system integration partners across the region.

In October, MapR announced ground breaking Apache HBase™ NoSQL
capabilities to enhance Big Data operations ranging from batch
analytics to real-time database functions performed with
enterprise-grade reliability and protection.

Also in October, MapR set a new 1TB TeraSort benchmark record of 54
seconds using Google Compute Engine. This record setting TeraSort
benchmark broke the one minute barrier with 1,003 servers, 4,012 cores
and 1,003 disks as compared to the previous record. The prior
documented record of 62 seconds was set by Yahoo running Apache Hadoop
on 1,460 servers, 11,680 cores and 5,840 disks. Google announced a
partnership with MapR on stage at the most recent Google IO conference.

Amazon now offers the MapR Distribution for Hadoop as an option within
the Amazon Elastic MapReduce service. Customers can provision
dynamically scalable MapR clusters while taking advantage of the
flexibility, agility and massive scalability of Amazon Web Services (News - Alert)
(AWS). In addition, AWS has made its own Hadoop enhancements available
to MapR customers, allowing them to seamlessly use MapR with other AWS
offerings such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon
DynamoDB and Amazon CloudWatch.
MapR will be showcasing its technology at The Hadoop Summit Europe in
Amsterdam from the 20th to 21st of March. The
leading conference for the Apache Hadoop community will feature thought
leaders who will showcase successful Hadoop use cases, share development
and educate organizations about how best to leverage Apache Hadoop as a
key component in their enterprise data architecture.
