Thief makes off with cherished memories

Jan 03, 2013 (Portsmouth Daily Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Sometimes irreplaceable memories and parts of lives are collateral damage in the theft of money or credit cards or some other item with great monetary value. Taylor Keen of West Portsmouth is just such a victim.

Taylor, who works at Portsmouth Municipal Court, was the victim of a thief on Christmas Day when someone broke into her car and took her purse.

"I know this probably happened to a lot of people during the Christmas holiday," Keen said. "But my story is a little different. Not only was my purse stolen, but in my purse there were items that are absolutely irreplaceable." Keen said those items include her video camera and digital camera which had the only videos and pictures of her child's birth in October, and his first Christmas.

"It has been crazy having a newborn and with the holidays I haven't had time to upload the pictures and videos in my computer," Keen said. "This had absolutely crushed me because he is my one and only child." Keen said all of her Christmas money, some $500 and several gift cards she had received at her baby shower were also in her purse and wallet, which were Coach brand, bringing the total monetary value of the theft to about $2,000.

"This is money I was saving to buy diapers," Keen said. "But that doesn't matter to me. All I want are the memory cards from the cameras. They are absolutely irreplaceable to me." Keen said she hopes that whoever took her purse would have the heart to return the memory cards so that she can always have the memories of her child's birth and first Christmas.

Keen said she can be reached at 740-357-1023.
