Kendall Hunt Creates Educational Game App to Support Mathematics Instruction
Dubuque, IA, Dec 27, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) --
To provide additional support for students, Kendall Hunt Publishing Company has announced the availability of a new educational game app designed to help students build their mathematical vocabulary in the classroom and at home.
Available through Apple's iTunes Store at no cost to users, the Mathcabulary app can be downloaded to any Apple device, including iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touch models. The app can be used to support any math program and with students in grades 3 and up.
To play Mathcabulary, students must find as many words as they can on a game board in two minutes. Points are awarded based on the number of letters in the word, with bonus points awarded for mathematical words. At the end of the game, students are provided with the definitions of the math words contained in the game board. The app tracks the top three scores on the device and students can play the game alone or pass the device back and forth to compete against a partner.
"Developing mathematical vocabulary and being able to communicate mathematically is a key objective of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics," said Janet Meyers, Director of Product Development. "We created this app to provide students with a fun way to revisit the mathematical terms they are learning through their classroom math curriculum as well as learn and understand the meaning of new terms that they may not have been exposed to yet."
Kendall Hunt publishes a complete roster of mathematics programs for grades PreK-12, including Math Trailblazers for grades K-5, Math Innovations for grades 6-8, and the Discovering Mathematics series for high school algebra and geometry. Programs for talented and gifted students in grades K-5 and advanced high school mathematics students are also available. To learn more, call 800.542.6657.
