Dec 20, 2012 (WORLDWIDE COMPUTER PRODUCTS NEWS via COMTEX) --
AT&T Government Solutions, a provider of network-enabled solutions for the federal government and a division of AT&T Inc (NYSE:T), announced on Wednesday the award of a Trusted Handheld Platform contract by the US Marine Corps to develop and deliver trusted mobile devices.
Under this award, financial details of which were not available, AT&T and its technology providers will develop 450 prototype mobile devices for testing, certification and implementation by the Department of Defence and other stakeholders.
These mobile devices, which will initially run a modified version of the Android mobile operating system, will be able to send and receive highly-secure voice, video and data across multiple security domains and wireless networks, both domestic and international.
The Trusted Handheld Platform was created by the US Marine Corps to spur development of commercially-available mobile devices that could support secure, classified and unsecure communications.
AT&T said that it has assembled a team of leading security technology providers to deliver secure mobile devices under this award, including Green Hills Software, SafeNet and Sequitur Labs.
