Facebook Using Standalone Apps As A Testing Ground

Nov 26, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Facebook has renewed its focus on mobile lately releasing a number of updates to their iPhone and Android Apps. Samuel Junghenn founder of Web Marketing Agency Think Big Online said this was expected due to Facebook's change to a Mobile First company.

In an interview with TechCrunch Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook had shifted the way it looks at mobile. Previously they looked at it with a core team, now instead each department of Facebook is responsible for creating great mobile experiences.

This shift by Facebook was a move to capture an even greater share of the mobile internet user environment and further strengthen Facebook's position. Recently though users and industry commentators have been asking why Facebook maintains separate Camera and Messaging Apps.

This was answered by Michael Eyal Sharon, a product manager at Facebook recently as follows; "Apps like Messenger and Camera let us push the envelope with specific features and allow us to get feedback from specific audiences like photo experts and hardcore messaging users. The highly engaged users of these apps are a great proving ground for next-generation features that are refined and tweaked in the stand-alone apps before potentially making a debut in the core app." The insight shared by Mr Sharon shows how an industry leader thinks about product development and innovation. Mr Junghenn from Think Big Online says "Business owners really should look at how Facebook are using these apps to help develop their core product offerings. A lot can be learned from this and used in our businesses to further deliver experiences to our customers."
