Cisco News - Cisco Shows Off Videoscape Unity IP Solution At Cable Show 2013

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

Companies like Cisco are always looking to make video solutions for cable providers that much better. One of the many reasons why Cisco (News - Alert) has recently been talking so much about their Videoscape Unity solution is because they are feeling the heat of competition from companies like AT&T. It is also one of the reasons that Cisco spent so much of a recent presentation talking about their new Videocape Unity program at the Cable Show 2013 conference.

The Videoscape Unity IP platform is unique because there is actual openness in the way that the solution is put together. This openness means that customers who want to use the video conferencing technology can do so in a number of different ways, as it can be shaped exactly to their liking. Third party vendors are also being allowed into the Cisco community for this particular project. That means that these vendors are able to deliver video experiences for cable operators that are both transformational and that can make some serious money for those developers.

The package has a consistent interface that is easy to use and yet very powerful. The interface actually works to bring video and social networking sites like Facebook (News - Alert) together into one package. The solution includes features such as a host of Cloud APIs which means that customers can access the solution and view content through a multi-screen experience. DVR penetration is also going to be able accelerated because the cable providers customers will actually be able to use their DVR on multiple screens at the same time.

Cable viewers always want more features and the ability to actually see a more social interface while also being able to user their DVR on more than one screen at a time is a big boon for the client base. The Unity program also allows for people to access the service for a host of different platforms, making the solution that much more attractive.
