Cisco News - Testing between Prognosis VoIP Monitor 4 Solution and Cisco Unified Communications Manager is Successful
By Christopher Mohr, TMCnet Contributing Writer
Integrated Research (News - Alert) Ltd. (IR), a Sydney, Australia-based company that develops monitoring and diagnostics software, successfully completed interoperability testing between its Prognosis VoIP Monitor 4 and Cisco (News - Alert) Unified Communications Manager 9.0.
Cisco's Unified Communications Manager (UCM) is designed to address many IT issues organizations must deal with today: mobile workers unable to use or access online resources easily, greater demand for video, lack of collaboration and too much platform dependency. According to Cisco, UCM is scalable to 40,000 users and extendible to 80,000 users.
The benefits of unified communications have a lot to do with simplification. Because all communications goes through a single infrastructure, regardless of device, workers are more productive, since they concentrate on the message instead of the technical details involved in getting the message out. UC can also be extended to the mobile workforce and it supports collaboration.
Prognosis VoIP Monitor 4 can manage voice quality for up to 5,000 devices in real-time. The Prognosis (News - Alert) First Responder app lets admins easily change settings from an iOS device, whether in the office or from a remote location. It is compatible with Prognosis for Unified Communications (News - Alert), and builds upon its features.
The development of these solutions shows that both Cisco and IR understand the importance of mobile devices. Mobile workers enjoy the flexibility that the technology brings, but without some mechanism for unifying mobile and server platforms, accessibility for authorized users attempting to use company networks is a difficult goal to achieve.
The flexibility that mobile devices bring also poses security risks that can keep IT managers up for nights on end. Technology has opened up, not only with the popularity of mobile devices, but also with other technologies like the cloud. The benefits these advances bring also make managing them more challenging. By unifying the different sources of communication, the architecture is simpler to use and understand and easier for IT management to control.
