Cisco News - Survey Finds Small Business Owners Work Remotely During Summer Vacations
By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor
While many people plan to take vacations during the summer time, it has not been the same for owners of small businesses. For several reasons, small business owners have not been able to stay away from office for long.
According to a new Cisco (News - Alert) survey of 500 U.S. small business owners, many plan to work remotely to make the most of work and personal time. In fact, per Cisco WebEx survey, small business owners plan to remotely work, on average, 18 days this summer. These results were posted on the Cisco blog.
Based on this survey, blogger Chris Ericksen wrote that some of the owners will be staying in touch with office from beaches and National Parks for even longer. Likewise, he added, 15 percent of those surveyed intend to work remotely 36 days or more. Furthermore, Ericksen wrote that the Cisco survey indicates that almost half of them plan to work remotely for at least two weeks before the summer is out.
As per the survey, nearly one-fourth (23 percent) of the respondents said their companies rely on telecommuting throughout the year. And some 13 percent of the small businesses reimburse their employees when they buy laptops, mobile phones or tablets, wrote Ericksen. Additionally, the survey shows that many of the respondents prefer working remotely to avoid hassles and inconveniences associated with traditional office meetings, Ericksen wrote. In addition, he added, “respondents claim their biggest concern about in-person meetings are that they run longer than planned (29 percent), and are hard to organize because of conflicting schedules (25 percent).”
Cisco said Wakefield Research assisted the company in conducting this survey, which took place between June 6 and June 14, 2012. It involved owners of businesses with 100 or fewer employees. The Cisco blog post shows that the margin of error was 4.4 percent.
