The odds are good that many of you have heard of the software giant Cisco (News - Alert). The company is known for making a lot of popular software products that many organizations rely upon on a day-to-day basis. Of course that has not stopped them from looking to grow and expand on the overall produce lines in order to field a greater product line and serve more customers.

This week, Cisco completed the acquisition of a company known as NDS (News - Alert). For those of you who are not familiar with NDS, here is how they describe themselves: "NDS Group Ltd. creates the technologies and applications that enable pay-TV operators to securely deliver digital content to TV STBs (set-top boxes), DVRs (digital video recorders), PCs, mobiles and other multimedia devices. Over 90 of the world’s leading pay-TV platforms rely on NDS solutions to protect and enhance their business. NDS’ VideoGuard® is the world’s market-leading content and service protection solution, deployed in 133 million pay-TV households. VideoGuard conditional access (CA (News - Alert)) and digital rights management (DRM) technologies safeguard pay-TV service revenues exceeding $50 billion." So Cisco users may find some new offerings in the future, one that will give enhanced video services to their end users and bring interesting developments in TV software.

Jesper Anderson, the senior vice president and general manager of the Service Provider Video Technology Group, said the following about the deal in a release,"The addition of NDS' leading software solutions and systems integration expertise play a key role in accelerating the Cisco Videoscape platform aimed at delivering better-than-being-there entertainment experiences. Through our combined expertise, we look forward to providing the next-generation TV experience that is more immersive, engaging and social, while helping to create new revenue opportunities for our service provider customers."
