By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Cloud Computing
Enterprise cloud services provider SunGard Availability has been named a recipient of the Cisco (News - Alert) Partner Summit theater award for Cloud Partner of the Year in the “service provider” category. Cisco announced the award at its annual channel partner conference in San Diego, Calif.
SunGard’s cloud services, which are pre-integrated and delivered on Cisco’s Unified Computing System (UCS), include Enterprise Cloud Services and Recover2Cloud – offering a full suite of compute, network and storage resources delivered on a resilient cloud infrastructure.
“Cisco is proud to partner with so many well-respected and industry-leading organizations, and it is an honor to recognize SunGard Availability Services as a Cisco Partner Summit theater award winner,” said Jim Sherriff (News - Alert), senior vice president, Americas Partner Organization at Cisco. “The Cloud Partner of the Year award presented to SunGard recognizes its performance and expertise as a Cisco service provider in 2011.”
SunGard is a certified Cisco Cloud Provider to offer Cisco Powered IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) Cloud, which recognizes SunGard’s delivery of cloud services in a multi-tenant environment to end customers. SunGard is also certified as a Cisco Master Managed Services Channel Partner (News - Alert), which designates SunGard’s Cloud offerings as meeting the highest level of achievement for partners delivering Cisco technologies as a managed solution.
“The Cisco Cloud Partner of the Year award is strong validation for SunGard’s Cloud strategy of providing secure, fully managed offerings for production and recovery,” said Rob Walters, vice president of product management, SunGard Availability Services. “Delivering our solutions on premium Cisco UCS infrastructure is essential to us in providing highly available cloud services.”
Cisco Partner Summit awards are presented at three levels: global, geo, and theater. Cisco Partner Summit U.S. and Canada theater awards reflect a partner's performance in a given geographic region of the United States or Canada.
In February, SunGard announced it would provide cloud backup services through Amazon’s Direct Connect, which will be available to both Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) and SunGard cloud customers, TMCnet reported.
Under the first phase of the relationship, SunGard will leverage AWS Direct Connect, providing “LAN-like” connectivity from AWS’ East Coast data centers to the SunGard Enterprise Cloud. The company said this arrangement will allow SunGard to provide customers with so-called bi-directional disaster recovery services between SunGard and AWS, without having to transport data over the public Internet.
