Cisco News - Desktone, Cisco and NetApp to Power Netelligent's Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS)
By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor
Netelligent (News - Alert), a provider of cloud and managed services, stated that it going to make use Desktone’s DaaS Technology, along with Cisco’s (News - Alert) Unified Computing System (UCS) and NetApp storage systems to deliver cost-effective cloud-hosted Windows 7 virtual desktops.
End users will receive protected and flexible access to Netelligent’s new full-featured virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) as a service and they need not have to employ a high-priced on-site infrastructure.
Netelligent acknowledged that Desktone’s multi-tenant cloud architecture enabled cost-effective and easy delivery of virtual desktops for service providers. By delivering virtual desktops in the cloud, Desktone supposedly enables Netelligent to rapidly provision desktops to users on any device, anywhere, without the upfront costs and complexity of traditional desktop virtualization–transforming desktops from a CAPEX to OPEX (News - Alert) item.
“Because Desktone’s mission from day one was to provide a platform for DaaS from the cloud, we are able to pass on the efficiencies created by cloud computing but still can offer a full-featured Windows 7 desktop experience. Desktone is clearly at the market lead because, based on their approach, customers can expect far more from what they receive from a shared session terminal service offering,” commented Aaron Stone, CEO of Netelligent, in a press release.
Cisco asserted that it is committed to help its partners like Netelligent succeed in the marketplace by offering cloud-ready solutions that enable them to deploy differentiated and profitable services. The Cisco UCS is designed to offer smart, programmable infrastructure that simplifies and speeds enterprise-class application and service deployment in bare-metal, virtualized and cloud-computing environments. It blends the components required to enable organizations to build, manage and connect public, private and hybrid clouds.
NetApp added that the Netelligent DaaS built on its storage systems allows Netelligent to provision thousands of new desktop images for its customers within minutes. Combined with NetApp’s storage and management efficiencies such as FlexClone and OnCommand, Desktone’s DaaS platform helps Netelligent minimize the cost of its services for customers. NetApp storage ensures all time availability of the Netelligent service and brings down latency to the minimum so that customers receive the highest-quality hosted VDI experience.
